ROCKINGHAM — The Richmond County Partnership for Children hosted a meet-and-greet Thursday for new Executive Director Brandi Covington.

Covington, who started her new position earlier this month, previously worked for more than a decade at the Partnership as a resource and professional development specialist.

After leaving Richmond County in 2015, Covington began working with Family Services Child Development in Winston-Salem, first as an education coach, then as a professional development coordinator, and later as school readiness manager.

Covington went on to be Head Start director for Consolidated Family Services in Randleman and helped establish Early Head Start in two counties.

She has also served as a board member with the Alamance County Partnership for Children and North Carolina Head Start Association.

A graduate of Richmond Senior High School, Covington went on  to earn an Associate in Early Childhood degree from Richmond Community College and Bachelor of Arts Degree in Sociology from UNC-Pembroke.

“I feel like I’m at home,” Covington said. “I’m very excited. Everybody’s been very welcoming.”

She’s spent the past several weeks getting out into the community and “getting acquainted with everything.

Covington said the Partnership is revamping and she’s looking forward to collaborating with the community.

“We’re very excited about the direction the Partnership is going,” said outgoing Board Chair Sharon Hutchinson, adding that the board was glad Covington moved back and was willing to take on the leadership role. “She’s going to be a great asset to the team here.”
