HAMLET — On Monday, Sept. 8, 2025, members of the General Henry William Harrington Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution delivered 30 “Welcome Back” gift bags to military-connected students at Hamlet Middle School in Richmond County.

Each bag was thoughtfully assembled to offer encouragement, essential supplies, and a warm start to the school year.

Hamlet Middle School is one of three Purple Star Schools in Richmond County — a designation awarded to schools that show a strong commitment to supporting military-connected students and their families. Purple Star Schools implement programs and policies that ease transitions, foster inclusion, and honor the unique challenges faced by children of service members.

“Supporting our military-connected students is a meaningful way to honor the sacrifices of their families,” said Melissa Wall, regent of the General Henry William Harrington Chapter, NSDAR. “These welcome bags are a small gesture with a big message: You are seen, you are valued, and your community stands with you.

"We’re proud to partner with Hamlet Middle School and uphold the DAR mission through service and patriotism.”

Citizens can support Purple Star Schools by volunteering, donating school supplies, attending military appreciation events, and advocating for resources that strengthen these programs. Community involvement plays a vital role in ensuring military families feel welcomed, supported and valued.

The General Henry William Harrington Chapter’s donation reflects its ongoing dedication to the DAR mission of historic preservation, education, and patriotism. Through service projects like this, the chapter honors veterans, uplifts youth, and strengthens community ties.
