ROCKINGHAM — On May 26, 2026, Melissa Wall, regent of the General Henry William Harrington Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, presented an American flag to Sean Ledbetter, plant manager of Mount Vernon Mills, at their facility located at 235 River Road in Rockingham.

This presentation was part of the chapter’s invitation to Richmond County Chamber of Commerce members to join in celebrating America 250 and Flag Day by proudly displaying the American flag throughout 2026. Mount Vernon Mills enthusiastically participated, reflecting its longstanding commitment to American manufacturing and community partnership.

Mount Vernon Mills: A Legacy of American Craftsmanship

Mount Vernon Mills has been a pillar of American industry for more than 175 years. The company’s philosophy is rooted in the belief that value is measured not only in price, but in the generations of knowledge, craftsmanship, and resilience woven into every product.

The company’s mission is to deliver innovative, meaningful, and world-class products and services that consistently exceed customer expectations. Its vision is to be a trusted partner, a strong employer, and a company with the resolve to meet future challenges with clarity and purpose.

Mount Vernon Mills is a diversified and integrated manufacturer serving the apparel, healthcare, industrial, institutional, and commercial markets. Its core products include denim, piece-dyed and flame-resistant fabrics, pocketing material, textile sizing, and finishing chemicals.

In January 2022, Mount Vernon Mills announced its agreement to acquire Wade Manufacturing Company’s yarn spinning and weaving facility in Rockingham, strengthening its vertical integration and supply-chain control. The transaction was completed in February 2022, further solidifying the company’s presence and investment in Richmond County.

A Community Invitation to Celebrate America 250

America 250 offers Richmond County an opportunity to showcase its history, unity, and patriotic spirit. To support this effort, the General Henry William Harrington Chapter, NSDAR invites Richmond County citizens to participate through simple, visible acts of patriotism, including:

  • Flying an American flag throughout 2026
  • Replacing worn or tattered flags
  • Requesting a flag if they do not currently have one

The chapter has a limited supply of 3' x 5' outdoor American flags available and offers assistance with the proper retirement of worn flags.

Honoring the Flag, Honoring Our Community

“These small gestures, when embraced across the county, create a powerful visual reminder of our shared American identity,” said Regent Melissa Wall. “As we prepare to celebrate the 250th anniversary of our nation’s founding, we hope to see flags flying proudly in every corner of Richmond County.”

President Ronald Reagan once said, “When we honor our flag, we honor what we stand for as a nation — freedom, equality, justice, and hope.”

The General Henry William Harrington Chapter, NSDAR looks forward to continuing its outreach as Richmond County joins the nation in celebrating America 250.
