ROCKINGHAM — A man with pending charges related to stealing water has allegedly done it again.
According to an arrest warrant, Steve Randall Butler unlawfully reconnected to Richmond County water system — after the utility had been shut off — on June 7, stealing a water meter valued at $500.
Butler was arrested the same day and charged with one misdemeanor count each of reconnecting a utility, misdemeanor larceny and injury to personal property.
He was booked into the Richmond County Jail on a $10,000 secured bond and is scheduled to appear in court July 3.
Online court records show Butler has the following pending criminal charges: two counts of felony larceny; two counts of misdemeanor larceny; two counts of reconnecting a utility; reconnecting a utility with significant property damage; injury to property to obtain nonferrous metals; and obtaining property by false pretenses.
His next court appearance on those charges is Aug. 7.
Butler also has several pending traffic citations.
Records show Butler has addresses listed on Safie Fifth Street in East Rockingham and Brandywine Court, off of Wiregrass Road north of Hamlet.
All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
