ROCKINGHAM — A man charged in a 2023 Hamlet shooting has taken a plea deal.
Xavier Antonio Dequan Wall, 22, pleaded guilty on Oct. 6 to discharging a weapon into an occupied property and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill and sentenced to 17-33 months with the N.C. Department of Adult Correction, records show.
Wall had been accused of shooting into an occupied home on Spring Street in Hamlet on Dec. 16, 2023, causing damage to the home and a new Kia Sportage. He was 19 at the time.
A warrant for Wall’s arrest was issued Dec. 9, 2025 and he was arrested the following Dec. 16 — exactly two years after the shooting.
Wall was indicted by a grand jury on Feb. 4.
Court records show the following charges were dismissed as part of the plea agreement: attempted first-degree murder; conspiracy to commit attempted first-degree murder; two counts of discharging a weapon into an occupied property; injury to personal property; injury to real property; and discharging a firearm in city limits.
Wall’s pending traffic citations were also dismissed.
He will receive credit for the 130 days he served before his bond was posted on April 24.
A firearm seized during the investigation will be retained by the Hamlet Police Department, according to court documents.
Wall is also ordered to pay $1,738.50 in attorney fees.
Records with the N.C. Department of Adult Correction show Wall was convicted in August of possession of a firearm with a removed serial number and misdemeanor larceny. He was given 12 months of probation for the larceny conviction, and 24 months for the gun charge.
