DOBBINS HEIGHTS — A weekslong summer camp came to a close on Thursday, with campers getting a variety of experiences.
Travis Bennett returned to his hometown this week to offer tennis lessons as part of Dobbins Heights’ annual summer camp.
Bennett, who grew up down the street from the town’s park and community center and played for Richmond Senior High School and St. Augustine’s in Raleigh, also gave lessons during the camp in 2024.
Helping Bennett out on the court again was Jordan Jacobs, who graduated this year and will soon start college.
See the RO’s Facebook page for photos from the tennis camp on Wednesday.
This year’s summer camp started on June 16 and ended July 17, with a week off for the Independence Day holiday.
According to Jean Quick Davis, the kids made tie-dyed T-shirts, painted rocks, and learned to grow plants as part of an ongoing beautification project.
The kids also were visited by an assistant district attorney and deputies from the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office, and took a trip to Mega Park in Hamlet for some playtime on the virtual reality games.
Goshen Medical Clinic was scheduled to be on site for the final day to conduct physicals for school.
