HAMLET — With the Fourth of July just around the corner, Doc Hill's Family Care Home opened its doors to the Hamlet Fire chief and Hamlet Police chief for a lunch that felt as much like a visit with old friends as an official meeting. It's the kind of gathering that reminds everyone here why strong ties with local public safety leaders matter — especially heading into one of the busiest weekends of the year.
Over lunch, residents and staff spoke with both chiefs about pedestrian safety near Hwy 74, a heavily trafficked corridor that residents cross on daily walks. The police chief offered practical guidance for walking safely in the area and noted that the city continues to look at ways to improve traffic flow and visibility in the neighborhood. With the holiday weekend ahead, residents also appreciated a reminder to stay alert to any temporary road changes the city may put in place around the Fourth of July festivities.
The visit also included a review of the home's fire safety procedures. Staff walked the chiefs through their monthly fire drill rotation across all shifts and their protocol for accounting for every resident, staff member, and visitor during an emergency — a practice the fire chief highlighted as central to keeping people safe first and property secondary.
Before lunch wrapped up, residents proudly gave both chiefs a tour of the home's newly added spa — the latest amenity supporting Doc Hills' person-centered, exceptional standard of care.
"Building relationships — not just within the community, but with other agencies like the sheriff's department and the fire and rescue squad — is something I've prioritized as police chief," the chief shared during the visit. "It takes a village, and that's what a team does."
The lunch closed with a group photo on the home's front porch, where residents and staff thanked both chiefs for their continued presence and responsiveness in the neighborhood.
Doc Hill's Family Care Home extends its thanks to the Hamlet Fire Department and Hamlet Police Department for their time, partnership, and ongoing commitment to resident safety.
