ROCKINGHAM — A stellar first-half performance and overall career night rocketed a junior football player to the top of this week’s rankings in the Richmond Observer’s series.
Domonic Tillman, a quarterback for the Raiders, has been named the Official Richmond County Male Student-Athlete of the Week presented by Rockingham NC Self Storage.
Extending the Raiders’ winning streak to six games, Tillman put on a show Friday at Lee County High School. He set several single-game career-highs while doing most of the damage in the opening two quarters.
Earning his third career selection, Tillman is in the midst of his second season as a major contributor for the varsity Raiders. He was named once for football and once for track and field during his sophomore year.

“CLASSROOM CREDITS” WITH DOMONIC TILLMAN Tillman has put up some impressive numbers on Friday nights, as he’s also seeing his hard work pay off in the classroom. At the midway point of his first semester of his junior year, Tillman is taking four classes at Richmond this fall. The first nine-week period ends Friday. Currently, Tillman is taking English III, Math 3, Weight Training Honors and Welding II. He has a 2.97 weighted grade point average and will look to build upon that in the spring with four additional classes — Civics Literacy, Spanish II, Physical Science and Weight Training Honors. “RECORD NIGHT” WITH DOMONIC TILLMAN The Raiders went into Lee County’s stadium Friday and were all business, bruising past the Yellow Jackets 48-21. Tillman threw five passing touchdowns to four different receivers in the first half. That was a single-game career-high, as well as his 325 passing yards. He finished the game 16-of-22 passing, one completion shy of tying his single-game best, and had a QB rating of 154.4. A hook-and-ladder trick play near the halfway point of the first quarter resulted in Tillman’s first touchdown to Daylyn Robinson (nine yards). Richmond’s next three scores were all screen passes that Jayden Hamilton (41, 39 yards) and Keonta Pegues (66 yards) took to the house. Hamilton intercepted a pass in the final seconds of the half, allowing Tillman to drop in a 33-yard dime to Nicholas Griggs in the end zone as time expired. Statistically through nine games this fall, Tillman is 51-for-81 passing for 814 yards with a .630 completion percentage. He’s thrown nine touchdowns and two interceptions, and also has two rushing scores. Tillman is averaging 90.4 passing yards per game, along with 5.7 completions per game. He’s third on the team with 149 rushing yards on 36 carries (4.1 yards per rush). Richmond (7-2, 5-0 SAC) is on its bye week and can win the outright SAC title Nov. 1 on senior night at home against Scotland High School. “RAPID RESPONSE” VIDEO WITH DOMONIC TILLMAN The Richmond Observer will publish two more Official Richmond County Student-Athletes of the Week next week.
