Douglas, former Richmond County register of deeds, dies

ROCKINGHAM — Longtime public servant Linda Douglas passed away Tuesday, Jan. 13 at the age of 73.

Douglas served 15 years as Richmond County’s register of deeds and previously served 18 years as a deputy in that office under Pat McDonald, according to a post from the Richmond County Historical Society.

She was first elected to the position in 2008 and retired in 2023.

“...Linda ran an effective, efficient office,” reads the post. “Under her supervision, her office helped thousands of citizens and oversaw the recording of tens of thousands of official documents.”

A native of Richmond County, Douglas graduated from Rockingham High School in 1970, the post reads.

Sheriff Mark Gulledge said in a post that Douglas was “a true friend” to the sheriff’s office and Richmond County.

“She gave so much to her Family and friends, but most of all to Jesus and her Philadelphia Methodist Church,” the post continues.

There is no obituary for Douglas listed on the website for McNeill Funeral Home, however there will be a wake from 5-7 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 17 at Philadelphia United Methodist Church.

The funeral service will be 11 a.m, Sunday, Jan. 18 at the church.
