East Rockingham man accused of stealing from Lowe's, Dollar General

ROCKINGHAM — A man on bail for allegedly stealing merchandise from a local retailer is accused of returning to take more.

Warrants allege that 26-year-old Sanford Lee Caulder Jr., of East Rockingham, stole a variety of items from Lowe’s Home Improvement over the summer.

Caulder is accused of stealing: 16 packs of saw blades valued at $244.68 on July 6; 11 packs of saw blades valued at $385.78 on Aug. 4; an unspecified quantity of saw blades valued at $314.88 on Aug. 12; and two packs of an 11-in-1 screwdriver set and quick-adjust pliers valued at $64.50 on Aug. 18.

On the day he was arrested, Aug. 31, Caulder allegedly stole “various items including Tide Pods and Lunchables” valued at $80.80 from the Dollar General on County Home Road.

Records show he was previously arrested Aug. 21 for allegedly stealing unspecified tools valued at $392.70 and a chainsaw valued at $379 on April 24.

In all, Caulder is facing seven counts of misdemeanor larceny.

Records with the Richmond County Jail show Caulder is being held without bond on one charge and a combined $2,600 secured bond on four additional counts. However, court records show a cumulative bond total of $7,600.

He is scheduled to appear in court Sept. 19.

Records with the N.C. Department of Adult Correction show Caulder was first convicted in 2015 of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, followed by felony convictions in 2016 of larceny of firearms and breaking and entering.

In 2018, Caulder was convicted in Scotland County on a misdemeanor count of possession of stolen goods.

Records show he was given probation in each case.

All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
