ROCKINGHAM — A man is being held without bond after allegedly threatening a woman and holding her against her will.

According to a warrant, sworn out by the reporting victim, 48-year-old Joseph Paul Reeves Jr., of East Rockingham, told the woman he would kill her while he had her cornered in a bedroom and detained her without consent on Dec. 30.

Reeves was arrested Dec. 31 and charged with a felony count of false imprisonment and a misdemeanor count of communicating threats. He was booked into the Richmond County Jail, with no bond authorized, and is scheduled to appear in court Jan. 5.

Online court records show Reeves was charged with driving while impaired in February, but refused to take a breathalyzer. He was also cited for failing to maintain lane control, reckless driving to endanger and possession of an open container of alcohol in the passenger area.

Records with the N.C. Department of Adult Correction show Reeves has twice been convicted of driving while impaired: 2005 in Richmond County; and 2012 in Scotland County.

All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
