East Rockingham man charged with murder

ROCKINGHAM — The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an early morning homicide in East Rockingham.

A Facebook post from the sheriff’s office early Wednesday states that one person was killed and another was detained.

While the post does not identify the suspect, public records show that 68-year-old Casey Patrick Boone, of Central Avenue in East Rockingham, has been charged by the sheriff’s office with an open count of murder.

Boone was booked into the Richmond County Jail at 12:08 p.m. and is currently being held without bond.

“The incident was isolated, and the investigation remains active,” Sheriff Mark Gullege said in a statement. “Additional information will be provided once the decedent’s family has been notified.”

The victim’s name is listed on Boone’s arrest warrant, but the RO is withholding that information as a courtesy to the family.

Boone is scheduled to appear in court Feb. 19.

Records with the N.C. Department of Adult Correction show Boone has previously been convicted of driving while impaired in 1998, 2003 and 2004.

He was also convicted in 2010 of driving while license revoked and in two counts of “other misdemeanant” in 2012.

Court records show Boone has had several other arrests in recent years, but the charges have been dismissed.

All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
