Assault suspect accused of kicking Richmond County deputies during arrest

ELLERBE — A man is accused of fighting with deputies while they were trying to arrest him on an assault charge.

Court documents show another man swore out a warrant on Jan. 4, accusing 34-year-old Wesley Bryan Parsons of hitting him in the ear, causing the reported victim to fall down, scraping his side and bruising the side of his face.

The defendant and the reported victim have the same last name, according to court documents.

When deputies with the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office tried to arrest Parsons on the warrant — charging him with a misdemeanor count of assault and battery — he allegedly kicked one in the leg and another in the chest.

Parsons is charged with two misdemeanor counts of assault on government official or employee, and count of resisting a public officer.

He was booked into the Richmond County Jail on a combined $11,000 secured bond and is scheduled to appear in court Jan. 12 for the original charge and Jan. 15 on the charges related to his arrest.

Online records with the N.C. Department of Adult Correction show Parsons was convicted in 2023 of possession of drug paraphernalia in Moore County.

All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
