ELLERBE — The Ellerbe Middle School boys’ and girls’ basketball teams lost their respective games against Sandy Grove on Monday.

Lady Wildcats fall to Lady Panthers

Ellerbe’s girls’ basketball team lost 36-5 to Sandy Grove, in what proved to be a physical contest between the two teams.

The Lady Panthers led 30-0 after three quarters before Ellerbe was able to get on the scoreboard. Scoring for the Lady Wildcats were Tanaja Harrison and Ashanti Covington on putbacks, along with Mariana Gonzalez, who added a free throw.

Defensively, the Lady Wildcats found some success recording six steals and four blocks in the first half, but Ellerbe’s shooting and rebounding struggles gave Sandy Grove too many opportunities.
