ELLERBE — The Ellerbe Town Council meeting on Monday marked a significant milestone in American history as Mayor Brenda Capel issued a proclamation recognizing the 250th Birthday of the United States Army.

The proclamation honors the Army’s enduring commitment to service and sacrifice, celebrating 250 years of defending the nation and preserving the freedoms cherished by all Americans.

Melissa Wall, regent of the General Henry William Harrington Chapter, NSDAR, was in attendance to accept the proclamation on behalf of the chapter.

Wall emphasized the importance of recognizing this milestone, stating, "The United States Army has stood as the backbone of our nation's defense for 250 years, ensuring liberty, security, and the American way of life. It is only fitting that we take this moment to honor the brave soldiers — past and present — who have dedicated their lives to serving our country."

The proclamation underscores the profound legacy of the U.S. Army, dating back to its establishment in 1775, when colonial troops united in the fight for independence. Over the centuries, the Army has played a pivotal role in shaping the nation’s history through its participation in conflicts and humanitarian efforts across the globe.

The General Henry William Harrington Chapter, NSDAR, remains dedicated to promoting patriotism, preserving American history, and supporting active-duty service members and veterans. Through initiatives such as educational programs and community outreach, the chapter continues to honor the spirit of service embodied by the U.S. Army.
