The Lady Raider volleyball team played in three competitions last week, starting with the NCHSAA 7A pre-regional tournament. That was followed by a pair of Mid-South Conference matches to close the regular season.

Richmond had three of its six players at the pre-regional tournament qualify for the postseason, and closed the season with a team victory on its home court.

At the pre-regional event held at Davie County High School, Drumwright was the lone Lady Raider to make the playoffs in singles action. She overcame an early deficit to defeat Blair Brooks of Purnell Swett High School in three sets.

After falling behind by losing the first set 4-6, Drumwright rallied to take the second and third sets by scores of 6-1 and 6-4, respectively.

Richmond was swept by Pinecrest High School in its first of two regular-season matches, but rebounded with a 7-2 win over Hoke County High School.

One of five Lady Raiders to notch the match victory in singles play, Drumwright defeated Shannon Clark 6-0, 6-3.

She followed that with a doubles win with partner Angelina Culbreth in the No. 3 doubles match. The two Lady Raiders defeated Lauren Pena and Alyssa Ledlow 8-6.

No. 17 Richmond will play its second round playoff match at No. 1 W.H. Page High School Wednesday at 4 p.m.
