Editors Note- This is the third installment in a multi-part series highlighting the recent local Democratic Party Convention.
ROCKINGHAM- Bobbie Sue Ormsby, a four year veteran of the Richmond County School Board, is running for re-election. She, along with other Democratic candidates in Richmond County, recently had the opportunity to speak to attendees of the local Democratic Convention.
Ormsby, in her opening remarks said, “I’m not a speaker, I’m a worker…I am here to work for the children of the Richmond County Schools who I love dearly.” For over 37 years, Ormsby, who has lived in Richmond County her whole life, worked in the school system in the county as a teacher as well as in administration. She commented that she and her late husband Ed raised three children who all came through the Richmond County School System.
“I am very proud of Richmond County, I love Richmond County, I want Richmond County Schools to be the best,” she said.
Ormsby noted that Richmond County Schools are moving in a positive direction. She said, “Test scores are improving and if you compare to surrounding counties we have lots to be proud of.”
Ormsby noted that she wants to be part of the future growth in the county school system and said, “I ask for your support, but also ask for your prayers. The school system, the teachers and the students need your prayers.”
“I have worked hard as I can for the last four years and want to work four more years for the students,” said Ormsby.
In her closing comments Ormsby concluded, “Schools are the heartbeat of Richmond County.”
