ELLERBE — In celebration of the National DAR Day of Service, members of the General Henry William Harrington Chapter, NSDAR, proudly participated in a heartfelt outreach initiative to honor local first responders.
On Oct. 16, chapter members Beth Bryant and Jan Stivers attended the Mountain Creek Volunteer Fire Department meeting in Ellerbe, where they presented the department with donations of bottled water, Gatorade, lemonade, assorted drinks, and a generous variety of snacks.
This act of kindness was part of the NSDAR Annual Service to America Project, a nationwide initiative supported by President General Ginnie Sebastian Storage. The 2025 theme encourages Daughters to support patriotism by recognizing and uplifting first responders in their communities. With the 25th anniversary of 9/11 approaching in September 2026, NSDAR chapters across the country are dedicating the year to sustained acts of service that express gratitude and reinforce the vital role these heroes play in our daily lives.
“Supporting our volunteer departments is essential,” said Beth Bryant, who led the project. “They operate with limited funding and provide critical services to those of us living in rural areas. Their dedication and sacrifice deserve our recognition — not just once a year, but always.”
Mountain Creek Volunteer Fire Department, headquartered in Ellerbe, serves Richmond County and surrounding areas with fire protection, emergency response, and community safety education. Staffed by trained volunteers, the department plays a vital role in safeguarding residential, commercial, and rural communities throughout the South NFPA region.
The General Henry William Harrington Chapter’s contribution exemplifies the DAR mission of historic preservation, education and patriotism. By joining forces with local organizations and performing small acts of service, Daughters nationwide are creating a ripple effect of goodwill and support.
