ROCKINGHAM - FirstHealth Fitness Center on 120 Richmond Drive in Rockingham was the site of Coffee Connections on Tuesday morning, June 12, sponsored by the Richmond County Chamber of Commerce.
Members of the local business community were welcomed by RCCC President Emily Tucker as well as staff members Taylor Player and Seth Allen. Those in attendance gathered here for conversation, connecting with others in Richmond County, as well as a bountiful breakfast of fresh fruits, muffins, pastries, fruit juices, and of course, coffee.
Jonathan Pope, the Director of the Fitness Center, was on hand and spoke to others about the many fitness activities available there, from Yoga to Aqua Aerobics, Kickboxing to Cycling, Cardio Burn to Jammin’. There are over 40 classes a week being offered.
Programs feature the latest in cardio and weight equipment. Members can enjoy the Aquatics Center, with an indoor heated pool, whirlpool, sauna, and steam room. There is a cushioned indoor track, a basketball and volleyball court, full service locker rooms, and on-site massage services.

FirstHealth Corporate Communications Director Taylor Satterfield and Wendy Wagner of Strategy and Innovations were also present at Coffee Connections. Jim and Wanda Sharpe of Pride Plumbing, which covers the four counties of Richmond, Stanly, Moore, and Montgomery, shared that they were high school sweethearts. After graduating in 1996, he came to work for this company, which only served Richmond County at that time.
Kenny Melvin of Farm Bureau Insurance; Ellerbe Town Commissioner Jeremy McKenzie; former Chamber Chairman Chuck Cobb; Adrienne Wilson of Big Rock Sports; and Dr. Irene Aiken, former Richmond County School Board member and dean of graduate studies at UNC-Pembroke were also in attendance.
As the event drew to a close, several door prizes were awarded. Commerce President Emily Tucker thanked everyone for coming and reminded them about supporting upcoming events such as Affair on the Square this week and Hoptoberfest in October.
