PINEHURST — FirstHealth is expanding access to primary care with the launch of a new Virtual Primary Care program, designed to help busy adults establish and maintain a relationship with a dedicated primary care provider from the comfort of home.
The program combines the convenience of virtual care with the continuity of a traditional primary care practice, allowing patients to develop a meaningful relationship with their provider while receiving preventive screenings, referrals and ongoing health management through secure video appointments using MyChart.
“Virtual Primary Care offers more than a convenient online visit,” said Steve Kapa, MHA, MPAS, director of telemedicine services at FirstHealth.
“We want to help patients build a positive, long-term relationship with a provider who understands a patient’s history, goals and needs while delivering care in a way that fits people’s busy lifestyles.”
Unlike many virtual care offerings that focus on immediate or one-time health concerns, FirstHealth's Virtual Primary Care program connects patients with providers who will deliver comprehensive, coordinated care over time. It also gives patients access to specialists throughout FirstHealth’s system.
Primary Care Built Around Patients’ Lives
The Virtual Primary Care program is designed for adults who prioritize their health and want easier access to care without the challenges of commuting, scheduling appointments around work or spending time in waiting rooms.
Through the MyChart platform, patients can meet with their provider using a smartphone, tablet or computer, creating a seamless and accessible care experience. The program works well for the following:
Should patients require in-person evaluation, FirstHealth's Virtual Primary Care providers can recommend the appropriate next step and coordinate care throughout the health system. Providers will also offer scheduled in-person clinic availability once each month at the FirstHealth Family Medicine office in Whispering Pines for non-emergent needs.
The program accepts most insurance plans and requires patients to be physically located within North Carolina at the time of their virtual appointment.
Patients interested in establishing a long-term relationship with a primary care provider while enjoying the convenience of virtual visits can learn more or schedule an appointment through FirstHealth's Virtual Primary Care program.
