ROCKINGHAM — Local student-athletes looking to get a healthy start to next school year’s competition will get a chance next month.
Richmond Senior High School posted on its Facebook page Monday that free sports physicals will be made available to high school and middle school student-athletes for the 2025-26 school year.
FirstHealth of the Carolinas will be on Richmond’s campus to provide the sports physicals two different days.
Physicals for Richmond and Ninth Grade Academy student-athletes will be held Friday, May 2. Students at the district’s four middle schools will have physicals on Friday, May 30. Both sessions will run from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
James Johnson, Richmond’s athletic director, said the plan is to get transportation lined up to get the middle schoolers to and from Richmond. Parent or guardian approval is also required for all middle school student-athletes.
Those interested in participating must bring the North Carolina High School Athletic Association approved physical evaluation form. No other forms will be accepted Johnson explained.
Richmond County Schools is also shifting away from DragonFly MAX as its primary platform to handle all athletic paperwork.
Moving into the upcoming school year, the district will use Student Central through BigTeams. Johnson encouraged parents and guardians to “Go ahead and create your accounts now so you’re ready to go.”

In order to compete in middle school or high school athletics, student-athletes must be academically eligible, have a current physical on file and have all the required paperwork completed.
