ELLERBE —In a heartwarming ceremony held at the Rankin Museum of American Heritage, members of the General Henry William Harrington Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, commemorated the 125th Anniversary of the DAR Hospital Corp.

The event honored the invaluable contributions of nurses who embody the spirit of dedication and service championed by the DAR Hospital Corp. Nurses Melissa Wall, Nancy Barber, Cheryl Kelly Andrews and Jan Stivers were each presented with DAR Certificates of Recognition for Excellence in Nursing and the prestigious NSDAR Hospital Corp Pins. Lewellyn Gibson, though unable to attend, was also recognized for her exceptional service.

The DAR Hospital Corp was established in 1900 to support military hospitals and provide trained nurses during times of war. It played a crucial role in World War I, sending thousands of nurses to serve both domestically and overseas. Over the years, the organization has continued its mission by supporting veterans’ hospitals, providing scholarships for nursing students, and advocating for healthcare improvements.

DAR nurses have consistently demonstrated unparalleled dedication, compassion, and professionalism. The 125th Anniversary celebration was a testament to the enduring legacy of the DAR Hospital Corp and its continued impact on the nursing profession.

Founded in 1890, the NSDAR promotes historic preservation, education, and patriotism. Membership is open to women 18 years or older who can prove direct lineage to a patriot of the American Revolution. For more information, visit the NSDAR website or contact your local chapter.
