Press Release
HAMLET — On Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2025, the General Henry William Harrington Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution proudly held its annual Good Citizen Award Ceremony at Dine82 Restaurant.
This prestigious event celebrates high school seniors who exemplify the qualities of dependability, service, leadership and patriotism in their homes, schools and communities.
This year's ceremony honored two outstanding students: Alivia Webb, who was chosen as the Richmond Senior High Good Citizen; and Hayley Martinez, who was selected as the Richmond Early College High School Good Citizen.
Each candidate submitted an essay addressing the focus question: "Service is an essential attribute of a good citizen. Discuss how service can foster a strong sense of community and strengthen our American identity."
The DAR Good Citizen Award recognizes students who not only excel academically but also demonstrate a strong commitment to community service and leadership. The selection process involves a thorough evaluation of the candidates' achievements, activities and an essay that showcases their understanding of the importance of service.
In an exciting development, Hayley Martinez was chosen as the General Henry William Harrington Chapter, NSDAR's Good Citizen and will advance to the N.C. state competition. From there, she has the opportunity to compete at the national level, where she will be in the running for a $10,000 scholarship.
"We are incredibly proud of Alivia and Hayley for their exceptional achievements and dedication to their communities," said Melissa Wall, regent of the General Henry William Harrington Chapter, NSDAR. "Their commitment to service and leadership sets a wonderful example for all of us."
The General Henry William Harrington Chapter, NSDAR, extends its heartfelt congratulations to both Alivia Webb and Hayley Martinez and looks forward to supporting Hayley in her journey to the state and national competitions.
