Gibson man accused of trafficking fentanyl, meth in Richmond County

ROCKINGHAM — A Scotland County man is facing felony drug trafficking charges after reportedly being caught with meth and fentanyl.

An arrest warrant, issued Aug. 26 to the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office, alleges that 29-year-old Andrew Ryan Hunt, of Gibson, was in possession of 43.8 grams of methamphetamine, between 4 and 14 grams of fentanyl, and 54 grams (1.9 ounces) of marijuana, as well as two digital scales and multiple hypodermic needles.

Hunt is also accused of breaking into a vacant property on U.S. 1.

He was arrested and charged with one felony count each of: trafficking in fentanyl; trafficking in methamphetamine; possession with intent to sell or deliver marijuana; and breaking and entering. Hunt is also charged with one misdemeanor count of possession of drug paraphernalia.

Hunt is being held without bond in the Richmond County Jail. His court date is scheduled for Sept. 10.

Online court records show Hunt has the following pending charges in Scotland County: resisting a public officer; second-degree trespassing; two counts of first-degree kidnapping; felonious restraint; possession with intent to manufacture, sell or deliver a Schedule II controlled substance; maintaining a vehicle, dwelling or place for a controlled substance (3 counts); possession of drug paraphernalia (2 counts); breaking and entering to terrorize or injure; breaking and entering a motor vehicle; trafficking in methamphetamine; carrying a concealed gun; simple possession of a Schedule VI controlled substance; and possession with intent to manufacture, sell or deliver a Schedule III controlled substance.

Hunt also has multiple pending traffic violations.

Records with the N.C. Department of Adult Correction show Hunt was convicted in Richmond County of possession of drug paraphernalia in 2017.

All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
