ROCKINGHAM — A local second-hand retail store was temporarily evacuated Monday morning due to a donation.
According to the Rockingham Police Department, police were called to Goodwill after 9 a.m. when someone discovered two old grenades that had been donated.
RPD K-9 Mick was reportedly brought in during the investigation but no explosives were detected.
Police say the N.C. State Bureau of Investigation was also called to the scene. Agents reportedly arrived in the noontime hour and gave the all clear about an hour later.
Investigators say the two grenades were inert and all explosive material had been taken out, adding that there were cobwebs inside.
The evacuation was lifted early in the afternoon, according to police.
