HAMLET — With the official start to summer being this week, the Seaboard City is bringing beach music to Main Street Park.
The Beach Fever Band will take the stage from 6-8 p.m. Friday in the June installment of Hamlet’s Boxcar Concert Series.
The local band features: bassist Gary Raines of Rockingham; vocalist, guitarist and saxophonist Kevin Parrish of Hamlet; and drummer NiQuan Sims and keyboardist-vocalist Zachary Kendall, both from Scotland County; and new guitarist Joe Rogers of Marlboro, South Carolina.
Beach Fever previously had a show in the series in 2024, playing classics from bands like Chairmen of the Board, as well as a beach-rock-country medley of Jim Quick's "Mama's Drinkin' Liquor Again," Free's "All Right Now" and Billy Ray Cyrus' "Achey Breaky Heart."
The band’s very first gig was at The Berry Patch in 2021 they have continued to perform throughout Richmond and Scotland counties, including shows at Hudson Brothers Deli in Rockingham and recently at the Landmark Tavern in Hamlet.
This is the third concert in the 2026 Boxcar season, which started with the Low Down Dirty Heathens in April, followed by Vagabond — performing 9 p.m.-midnight Friday at the Landmark Tavern —in May. (See photos of both performances at the RO's Facebook page.)
Other bands on the schedule for this year are: Good Company in July; the Jonathan Robinson Band in August; Erik Hawks and the Hard Luck Band in September; and The Radio in October, the night before the Seaboard Festival.
Concerts are held from 6-8 p.m. in Main Street Park on the fourth Friday of each month, coinciding with TGIFood Truck Fridays at the Depot, which operate from 11 a.m.-7 p.m.. This week’s food trucks are: Mama Blair’s; Max’s Millstone BBQ; Burger Bros(until 3 p.m.); Funcessions; and Kandy ShaK.
The free Boxcar Concert Series started on Sunday afternoons in 2022, but was switched to Friday evenings to coincide with the food truck events.
