HAMLET — A boil water advisory has been issued effective immediately.
According to City Manager John Terziu, a water system leak was identified and, “out of an abundance of caution,” he is issuing a “precautionary advisory while crews address the issue.”
Terziu says that the advisory is not mandatory and there is no confirmed contamination, as of 1 a.m. He added that repair crews are working on the problem, which requires the shutdown of water storage tanks “to protect the integrity of the water system.”
“Whenever pressure is lost or system integrity is compromised, state and federal regulations require issuing a Boil Water Advisory as a precaution,” Terziu said in a press release. “Protecting public health is our top priority, and we will lift the advisory as soon as it is safe to do so.”
Until the advisory is lifted, city water customers are encouraged to:
Boil all tap water used for:
According to Terziu, water quality testing will be conducted once the system is stabilized and the advisory will remain in effect until lab results confirm the water is safe. Residents will be notified when the advisory is lifted.
