HAMLET — A man accused of stealing a vehicle from a local gas station last week has been admitted to the Richmond County Jail with additional charges.

Jail records show 34-year-old James Jermaine Little, of Wilmington, who has an address listed on McGirt Road in Hamlet, was booked at 2:18 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 20.

Little allegedly stole a Jeep from the Mainway Food Mart on Main Street in Hamlet around 7:30 a.m. Jan. 17, dragging the owner through the parking lot.

Police in Dillon, South Carolina, reportedly caught Little at a convenience store there while responding to a call of an intoxicated party.

Hamlet investigators told the RO last week that Little was being charged with larceny of a motor vehicle and common law robbery. Jail records show additional charges of second-degree kidnapping, assault with a deadly weapon and attempted larceny.

The only warrant publicly available online at the time of this writing was for the attempted larceny charge, which alleges Little tried to steal a 2016 Jeep Patriot on Jan. 17.

Little is currently being held without bond and is scheduled to appear in court Feb. 6.

Online court records show Little has pending charges of felony breaking and entering and misdemeanor injury to personal property from 2024 in New Hanover County.

There were no charges listed in Dillon County as of this writing.

All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
