ROCKINGHAM — A Hamlet man is accused of breaking into three vehicles and stealing from two of them.
According to arrest warrants, 27-year-old Kenneth Lancaster, of Old Gibson Road, broke into three vehicles on April 29: a 2019 Dodge Ram 2500, owned by CSX; a 2018 Subaru Outback; and a 2011 Nissan Rouge.
Lancaster allegedly stole a Walther .22-caliber handgun from one vehicle.
Items listed stolen from another vehicle include: a Streamlite flashlight; a CSX business credit card; a Milwaukee 18-volt impact drill; a Dewalt jump box; two weedeaters and gas cans; a hedge trimmer; and a blower.
Lancaster is charged with five felonies: three counts of breaking and entering a motor vehicle; and one count each of larceny and larceny of a firearm.
He was arrested the same day and booked into the Richmond County Jail, where he remains under a $25,000 secured bond.
Records with the N.C. Department of Public Safety Division of Adult Correction show Lancaster has a history of breaking into vehicles.
In 2011, Lancaster was convicted in Richmond County on eight counts of breaking and entering a motor vehicle, two counts of misdemeanor larceny and one count of larceny of a motor vehicle.
His probation was revoked the following year, landing him behind bars.
While incarcerated, Lancaster was convicted on eight counts of misdemeanor larceny in Scotland County.
He was incarcerated June 13-Dec. 23 on all convictions, records show.
Lancaster received probation in 2018 when convicted on a single count of misdemeanor larceny in Scotland County.
All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
