HAMLET — Police have charged a man accused of shooting into an occupied home.

An arrest warrant alleges that Daquan Maquis Reid, 27, of Hamlet, shot into a home on Charlotte Street that was occupied by a male and a female on Feb. 16.

The warrant shows Reid’s home address is the same as the home he’s accused of shooting into. One of the reported victims also shares his last name.

Reid was arrested and charged with one felony count of discharging a firearm into an occupied dwelling and a misdemeanor count of discharging a firearm in city limits.

He is being held in the Richmond County Jail on a $50,000 secured bond, and is scheduled to appear in court March 5.

Records with the N.C. Department of Adult Correction show Reid was previously convicted in 2016 of failing to heed a light or siren and disorderly conduct.

All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
