ROCKINGHAM — A Hamlet man on probation is facing rape and kidnapping charges for an alleged assault on Dec. 9.
According to an arrest warrant, 32-year-old Casey James Braddock held a woman against her will and raped her. The warrant also states the victim was assaulted about her body and face and that her “ear was bitten to the point of maiming.”
Braddock was arrested the same day by the Richmond County Sheriff's Office and charged with first-degree forcible rape, assault inflicting serious injury and first-degree kidnapping. He is being held in the Richmond County Jail and is scheduled to appear in court Dec. 19.
Online court records show Braddock has pending traffic citations from August.
Records with the N.C. Court System and N.C. Department of Adult Correction show Braddock was convicted — as a female — of assault on a female on Nov. 18 and was given a 12-month suspended sentence. Additional charges of domestic violence and assault by pointing a gun were dismissed. Braddock was ordered to obtain a substance abuse assessment.
The victim appears to be the same in the current case as the November conviction.
All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
