Hamlet Police Arrest Three Within 48 Hours

HAMLET - The Hamlet Police Department conducted three separate arrests within a 48 hour period last week.

Maria Shanta Burnett, 36, of High Street in Hamlet, was arrested 8/20/18 at Hwy 74/Hwy 381 after a Hamlet patrolman ran her registration plate and found she had a suspended license and then initiated a traffic stop. 

A warrant check was also run on Burnett and multiple counts of driving with a revoked license showed up as well. 

She was also given a subsequent citation for driving while license suspended. 

Burnett was placed in the Richmond County Jail under an unsecured bond of $250. 

Her initial appearance in court date is set for September 6.

 

Darren Lamond Little, age 25, of Washington Street Apartments was arrested on August 21 for misdemeanor larceny.

It is alleged that Little took a chair from in front of Dollar General after the store had closed for the night. 

He was released on a $1,000 unsecured bond to appear in court September 20.

 

On August 22, Darius Octavious Johnson, age 31 of Vance Street, Hamlet was arrested without incident at his residence by a Hamlet patrolman for outstanding warrants in Scotland and Guilford Counties.  

The warrants were:

Possession of a firearm on educational property (1 count dated September 3, 2004);

Failure to appear - second degree trespassing (1 count dated July 30, 2018); and

Failure to appear - simple possession of a Schedule VI controlled substance (misdemeanor) (1 count dated July 30, 2018).  

Johnson was placed in the Richmond County Jail under a $2,000 secured bond.  His first appearance court date is set for September 4.

 

All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
