HAMLET — Police have charged a man with a history of theft of stealing a motorcycle at gunpoint over the weekend.
According to an arrest warrant taken out by the Hamlet Police Department, 37-year-old Laron Chez Eason Jr., of Hamlet, used a gun of an unspecified caliber to rob the reported victim of a 1980 Harley-Davidson XHL on Saturday, June 21.
Eason, who has several prior felony convictions, was arrested the same day and charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon and possession of a firearm by a felon.
He was booked into the Richmond County Jail on a $25,000 secured bond and is scheduled to appear in court July 3.
Court records show Eason has pending traffic citations from 2024.
Eason has criminal convictions in four counties in the eastern part of the state, according to records with the N.C. Department of Adult Correction.
He was first convicted in 2006 of larceny of a motor vehicle, contributing to the delinquency of a minor and operating a vehicle without a license in Pasquotank County.
In 2009, Eason was convicted of felony larceny in Chowan County.
The following year, Eason was convicted of first-degree burglary and robbery with a dangerous weapon in Northampton County and served nearly six years in prison.
While serving his sentence, Eason was convicted in 2012 of possession of a Schedule VI controlled substance in Columbus County.
All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
