Hamlet Police Department Announces New Hire: Officer Tim Hubbard

HAMLET – The Hamlet Police Department announced the addition of a new officer last week.

Tim Hubbard, 27, has been hired as the newest member of Hamlet’s finest.  He will begin his official duties the first week of January, 2018.

Officer Hubbard is originally from Smithport, Pa., and cites his small town roots as one of the reasons that he chose to come to Hamlet.

“I just like the small town atmosphere,” Hubbard said.  “Everybody knows each other and friendships mean something.”

Hubbard continued, indicating that (he), “grew up in a town very much like Hamlet, so I know what to expect from the community and, more importantly, what the community expects of me as an officer.”

Hubbard, who has been in North Carolina since 2013, most recently patrolled for the private, but fully accredited, Crabtree Valley Police Department in Raleigh after graduating from the Raleigh Police Department Basic Law Enforcement Training Program.

“I’ve always been fascinated with police work, especially the ‘serve’ aspect,” said Hubbard.  “It puts you in a position to help people on a daily basis.”

Officer Hubbard stated that domestic calls will be the biggest challenge that he foresees on the job, citing the unpredictable nature of such situations.

“They (domestic calls) are all different,” Hubbard said, “so you never know exactly what you are walking into at any given time.”

Captain Randy Dover commended Officer Hubbard, noting the positive attitude and intelligent approach to policing that the new hire has demonstrated thus far.

“He’ll be paired with a field training officer and rotate around for about two months or so, just to get the feel of the town, what our policies and procedures are, things like that,” said Dover.  “We are very glad to have him and think that he will be a tremendous asset to the department.”
