Hamlet Police Department dispatchers honored

HAMLET — Prior to the merging of the county’s law enforcement agencies’ dispatch with the Richmond County 911 Center, those at the Hamlet Police Department were honored for their service.

Chief Scott Waters, who retires Friday, presented plaques of appreciation in January to HPD’s four dispatchers: Loretta Sears, Stacey Sparks, Sheree McInnis and Cindy Ojeda.

“We wanted to give them recognition for their years of service … here at the Hamlet Police Department,” Waters said.

In addition to dispatching officers, the ladies kept up their DCI certifications and maintained files of wanted individuals and stolen property.

Ojeda had the longest time, working at the department twice — from Feb. 10, 2010 to June 5, 2016, then coming back Dec. 3, 2017 and staying until Jan. 27.

Sears had the second longest watch, five years, from Oct. 28, 2013 to Jan. 24.

Sparks had nearly three years in — Feb. 8, 2016 to Jan. 27 — and Sheree McInnis had about 2.5 years — July 8, 2016 to Jan. 24.

Sparks, McInnis and Ojeda all moved to the 911 Center.

“We just wish them the best in their future,” Waters said.
