HAMLET — Police have charged a man they believe shot into a home two years ago.
An arrest warrant, issued Dec. 9 to the Hamlet Police Department, alleges that 21-year-old Xavier Antonio Dequan Wall fired shots from a 9mm into a home on Spring Street that was occupied by two people.
The incident reportedly occurred on Dec. 16, 2023. Wall was 19 at the time. The ages of the reported occupants are not listed, however it appears — based on the charges — that one of the occupants was the intended victim.
The gunfire reportedly caused damage to the walls of the home, as well as a 2023 Kia Sportage. Neither the owner of the home or the vehicle were occupants at the time of the shooting.
Wall was arrested Dec. 16, 2025 — exactly two years after the reported shooting — and charged with one felony count each of attempted first-degree murder and discharging a firearm into an occupied property.
He is also charged with one misdemeanor count each of: injury to personal property; discharging a firearm in city limits; and injury to real property.
Wall is being held without bond in the Richmond County Jail and his first appearance was scheduled for Dec. 17. Another court appearance is set for Dec. 19, court records show.
Online court records show Wall has pending traffic infractions from the N.C. State Highway Patrol, including speeding, reckless driving to endanger, failing to carry a valid driver’s license, having an expired registration, and a window tint violation.
Records with the N.C. Department of Adult Correction show Wall was convicted in August of possession of a firearm with a removed serial number and misdemeanor larceny. He was given 12 months of probation for the larceny conviction, and 24 months for the gun charge.
All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
