Hamlet Police Make Two Separate Arrests Subsequent to Calls Reporting Marijuana Smoking

HAMLET - Two individuals were arrested in two separate cases by the Hamlet Police Department for various charges last week.  Each of the arrests was subsequent to reports of persons openly smoking marijuana in public. 

Drew Westley Long, 32, of 227 Terry Bridge Road in Rockingham was detected smoking a substance believed to be marijuana at the Starflight Convenience Store in Hamlet on Sunday, June 10th, at approximately 3:34 p.m.

Subsequent investigation by the HPD led to further charges of felonious possession of a Schedule II substance and misdemeanor charges of possession of drug paraphernalia. 

Long was processed into the Richmond County Jail under a secured bond of $1500. 

Long’s trial date was set for Thursday, June 28th, in Richmond County District Court. 

Another arrest was made on Tuesday, June 12th, at approximately 9:15 p.m. subsequent to another report of alleged marijuana smoking. 

Police received a call to 202 Quail Hollow Drive in Hamlet and encountered Tyrelle Tasean Scarborough, 28, of 110 Holly Tree Lane, Ellerbe.  

Subsequent investigation revealed outstanding warrants for Scarborough’s arrest on charges of assault on a female; breaking and entering; first degree trespassing; injury to personal property; and injury to real property. 

All of Scarborough’s charges are misdemeanors and were originally issued on April 21st of 2017.
