HAMLET — A current parolee is back behind bars on drug and gun charges.
According to warrants, an officer with the Hamlet Police Department found 25-year-old Larry Donald Williams III, of Hamlet, in possession of two bags of marijuana and an AR-15 rifle.
Williams is also accused of having marijuana at the Richmond County Jail.
He was arrested Jan. 5 and charged with possession with intent to sell or deliver marijauna, possession of a controlled substance on jail premises and possession of a firearm by a felon.
Records show Williams is being held on a $265,000 secured bond. His first court appearance was Jan. 6 and his next is scheduled for Jan. 22.
According to records with the N.C. Department of Adult Correction, Williams was released from prison June 17, 2025 after serving roughly two and half years following a late 2022 conviction on charges of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury and possession of a Schedule I controlled substance.
His parole is set to end June 17 of this year.
All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
