Hamlet ready to open Area 3 Conference play

Post 49 will play 3 conference games this week

HAMLET — It’s been a slow start to the season for the Hamlet American Legion baseball team, but not in its offensive or defensive categories.

Wet weather has postponed or canceled four of Post 49’s first eight regular season games, including two over the weekend as part of the Hall of Fame Classic.

Having won their last two games, the 49ers (2-2) will look to get into more of an upbeat tempo with three games this week.

More importantly, Hamlet will look to keep that streak going as it begins Area 3 North Pod 2 Conference play. This is the first season Hamlet is in Area 3 after the state redistricted programs in the offseason.

Post 49 will play three North Pod 2 games in three straight days, starting Tuesday on the road against Moore County Post 12. That game will be held at North Moore High School.

Hamlet will close its two-game series with Post 12 Wednesday at home at Memorial Park.

The final game of the week will be against Eastern Randolph Post 81, a team Hamlet defeated Saturday in the HOF Classic. The second meeting, which will be played at Eastern Randolph High School, will count toward the conference standings.

All three of Post 49’s games this week will start at 7 p.m., weather permitting.

Junior Legion team continues summer slate

The Hamlet Junior Legion baseball team (1-4) will play two games this week. One will be non-conference, while the other will open North Pod 2 play.

Up first for the Junior 49ers will be a non-conference road game at Hope Mills Post 32 Tuesday. The game will be played at Gray’s Creek High School and start at 7 p.m.

Returning home Thursday, the Junior team will begin conference action against Eastern Randolph Post 81. First pitch from Memorial Park is set for 6 p.m.
