HAMLET — The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office has apprehended a man suspected of shooting into a vehicle Friday night.

According to a press release posted to social media, deputies were dispatched to FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital-Richmond around 9:45 p.m. Sept. 5 regarding a gunshot victim.

The reported victim told deputies that he was at his home on Ponderosa Drive, north of Hamlet, when his unnamed cousin got into an argument with 44-year-old Dennis Gregory Quick, also of Ponderosa Drive, according to the sheriff’s office.

Quick allegedly fired multiple shots into the vehicle and the reported victim was shot in the arm. The cousin then reportedly drove the victim to the hospital, calling 911 on the way.

Other deputies went to the scene where they reportedly found spent shell casings along the side of the road, but after conducting a “safety sweep,” were not able to find Quick.

On the evening of Sept. 8, investigators with the RCSO Criminal Investigations Division reportedly received information on Quick’s location and deputies with the Patrol Division found him.

According to the sheriff’s office, Quick was taken into custody following a short standoff.

Quick is charged with one felony count each of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury and discharging a weapon into a moving vehicle. He is being held without bond in the Richmond County Jail and is scheduled to appear in court Sept. 25.

Jail records show he is also being held on a probation violation.

Quick is a registered sex offender, having been convicted in 2018 on a single count of taking indecent liberties with a child. Records show that, at the time of the incident, Quick was 35 and the victim 14.

Quick was also convicted at the same time of possession of a firearm by a felon and being a habitual felon. He served nearly six years in prison and was released in March 2024.
