HAMLET — It was a tough go for the Hamlet American Legion baseball team Sunday.

Starting its two-game Area 3 Conference series with Randolph County Post 45, Hamlet suffered a 21-0 loss in five innings.

The 49ers weren’t able to register a hit against starting pitcher Price Kidd, who threw all five innings for Randolph County.

Post 45 scored five runs in the first inning, added five more runs in the second inning and led 14-0 after four innings.

In the fifth frame, Randolph County scored its final seven runs.

Making the start on the mound for Hamlet was Brady Fowler (Surry Community College), who pitched a third of an inning before leaving with arm discomfort. Fowler gave up five runs (four earned) on one hit and had one strikeout.

Tristan Chavis (Richmond) delivered 3.0 innings of relief for Post 49. Five of his nine runs allowed were earned, which came on seven hits. Chavis struck out two batters.

In the final two innings, Noah Stubbs (Richmond) made his pitching debut of the summer. He punched out three batters while giving up seven earned runs on three hits.

As a trio, Hamlet’s pitchers walked a total of 12 batters and hit two others with a pitch.

Disrupting what would have been a five-inning perfect game for Kidd was Caden Nolan (Belmont Abbey College) in the bottom of the first inning. With two outs, Nolan reached on an error by the second baseman.

Nolan was Hamlet’s only base runner in the game.

Hamlet (2-3, 2-3 Area 3) will close its series with Randolph County on the road Tuesday. First pitch is at 7 p.m.
