RAMSEUR, N.C. — Returning to Eastern Randolph High School Monday, the Hamlet American Legion baseball team finished its suspended game with Eastern Randolph Post 81.
The completion of the game was the result of the original game June 12 being delayed due to heavy rain and field conditions.
Picking up play at the start of the bottom of the fifth inning with Hamlet trailing by two runs, Eastern Randolph added on to win the Area 3 Conference game 6-2.
Jason Walker (Richmond) started the game June 12 and allowed four runs (two earned) in four innings. Closing out the final two innings Monday was Evan Hodges (Richmond), who gave up two unearned runs.
John Carre (North Moore) was responsible for both of Hamlet’s runs. He had an RBI single in the second inning and scored on a wild pitch in the fifth frame moments before the suspension of play.
Post 81 scored its two runs Monday on a two-out RBI single in the home half of the fifth. Hamlet left two base runners stranded in the top of the sixth and went down in order in the seventh.
