While the rain has dampened several outdoor activities scheduled for this weekend, there are several others going on.
Richmond Community Theatre will be producing the final weekend of “The Shawshank Redemption.”
Based on a 1982 novella “Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption” by Stephen King, the story follows banker Andy Dufresne who is convicted of murdering his wife and her lover and sent to Shawshank State Prison — although he claimed to be innocent —and eventually escapes.
The local production is directed by Cleve Baxley, and the cast includes Baxley, Bruce Stanback, Darren Stewart, Marcus Covington, Scott Tomestic, Grame Taylor, Glenn Caulder and Fritz Barnes.
Showtimes are 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday evenings, with a 3 p.m. matinee performance — the final one — on Sunday.
The show includes an audience advisory due to mature content and violence.
Tickets are available online or at the box office 30 minutes before showtime.
Runners return to Rockingham this weekend for the annual Hinson Lake 24-Hour Ultra, competing for the longest distance from 8 a.m. Saturday to 8 a.m. Sunday.
Last year’s winner was 31-year-old Zac Godfrey from Garner, logging 111.2368 miles.
The event also collects donations for Richmond County Operation Fix.
Other run/walk events scheduled for this weekend include the annual Gun Run at Dewitt’s Outdoor Sports in Ellerbe and a Suicide Awareness Walk at Hitchcock Creek.
The N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission is also hosting one of its two National Hunting and Fishing Day events at the John Lentz Hunter Education Complex in Ellerbe.
