PITTSBORO — A tough night at the plate resulted in the Richmond Renegade baseball team’s first loss of the summer on Thursday.

Facing the Northwood Chargers for the second time in three days, the Renegades couldn’t complete the two-game sweep.

Managing to register just one hit in the game, Richmond lost 10-0 in six innings.

Northwood scored solo runs in the second and third frames, scored two more in the fourth, another in the fifth and completed the mercy-rule win with five runs in the sixth.

The Renegades used a trio of pitchers in the game, starting with Riley Brown (3 IP, two runs, five hits, three strikeouts).

Allen Taylor followed Brown (2 IP, three runs, three hits, two Ks) and Jason Walker closed it out (0.1 IP, five runs, four hits). Taylor and Walker combined to allow seven walks.

Richmond was retired in order in the first and second innings, and Davis Faw became the first base runner when he drew a one-out walk in the top of the third.

Going down in order again in the fourth, a leadoff walk to Brown in the fifth registered Richmond’s only other free pass in the loss.

Later in the inning, Evan Hodges connected on a one-out single to center field, proving to provide the Renegades’ lone hit.

Richmond’s bats were quiet in the sixth, which saw another 1-2-3 inning at the plate. The five-run inning by the Chargers ended the game early.

The Renegades (1-1) are set to return to action on Tuesday at Scotland. First pitch is set for 6 p.m.
