FOXFIRE VILLAGE — The second match in as many days for the Richmond Senior High School boys’ golf team yielded more positive results.

Hitting the links for another Sandhills Athletic Conference match, the Raiders hosted the other six conference teams for their lone home match of the season.

Making up a rainout from late last month, Richmond played nine holes at Foxfire Resort and Golf.

With a team score of 177, the Raiders charged back into second place. It was the team’s second second-place finish this spring, as well as the Raiders’ lowest nine-hole score as a team.

Richmond trailed only Pinecrest High School, which kept its undefeated streak against SAC teams going with another team victory. The Patriots ended the round with a score of 151.

Atop the field was Jet Johnson of Pinecrest, who posted a round-low 37.

Jumping back ahead of two opponents from Monday, the Raiders finished better than third-place Union Pines (179) and fourth-place Hoke County (186) and Lee County (186) high schools.

Scotland High School was sixth overall with a score of 195 and Southern Lee High School also competed, but didn’t have enough golfers to qualify for the team score.

"Another good day for us,” head coach Keith Parsons shared. “Grayson Robson, CJ Turner and Kevin Tabacolde were very solid, and Landon Legrand posted a good score for his first high school match.

"We've got one regular season match remaining, and I'm excited to see how we play."

The four golfers Parsons mentioned — Robson, Turner, Tabacolde and Legrand — were the four players who contributed to the team’s overall score.

Robson shot a season-low 41 to lead the team, becoming the third Raider to be first on the scorecard this season. Finishing eighth overall, Robson’s round score was seven strokes better than his previous two nine-hole matches.

Turner and Tabacolde tied for ninth place overall with matching scores of 42, which matched Tabacolde’s nine-hole low score this season. Post a 52, Legrand rounded out the top scores for Richmond in his debut match.

Junior Camden Williams (52) and freshman Mason Taylor (54) both battled to place in the qualifying scores for Richmond.

In their five conference matches this spring, the Raiders have recorded 26 points. Playing three nine-hole matches and two 18-hole matches, the Raiders currently sit in second place in the SAC standings.

Pinecrest leads the standings with 35 points. Richmond holds a slight lead over third and fourth-place teams Union Pines (24 points) and Lee County (22 points).

Richmond’s regular season will conclude following spring break. The team and the other SAC programs will play one more 18-hole match at Scotch Meadows Country Club on Monday, April 28. Golfers will tee off at 2 p.m.
