ROCKINGHAM — A homeless man on probation is accused of stealing nearly $100 in merchandise on three occasions from a chain pharmacy.
According to a warrant issued Nov. 7 to the Rockingham Police Department, 28-year Brandon Michael McDurmon stole the following items from CVS Pharmacy on Nov. 3: a half-gallon of milk; Tide Pods; Gatorade; Axe Apollo; an oil warmer; and men’s socks.
A criminal summons, issued Nov. 18, alleges that also on Nov. 3, McDurmon left the store with: a dozen eggs; a gallon of milk; a 28-0z Gatorade Zero; a 42-count container of Tide Pods; a box of Honey Bunches of Oats cereal; and a shopping basket.
McDurmon allegedly returned to the store on Nov. 17 and stole another container of Tide Pods.
The total value of the alleged stolen items is $99.67.
He is charged with three counts of misdemeanor larceny.
Records show McDurmon was given a 12-month suspended sentence on Sept. 15 when he was convicted of: felony larceny; felony breaking and entering; misdemeanor larceny; assault on a female; and first-degree trespassing.
According to court records, orders for McDurmon’s arrest for a probation violation were issued on Oct. 9 and Nov. 19.
McDurmon is being held without bond on the charges related to the probation violations, and a $5,000 secured bond on the recent charges. He is scheduled to appear in court Dec. 1 on the parole violations and Dec. 5 on the CVS-related charges.
Records with the N.C. Department of Adult Correction show McDurmon was first convicted in 2019 of unauthorized use of motor conveyance, misdemeanor larceny, obtaining property by false pretenses, possession of a firearm by a felon and felony breaking and entering in Person County.
While serving time at Richmond Correctional Institution (at the time it was called Morrison Correctional Institution) in June of 2019, McDurmon and another inmate escaped.
They were both captured later that day, hiding in the crawl space under a Dobbins Heights home.
McDurmon was charged in Richmond County with escaping prison, habitual breaking and entering and possession of a firearm by a felon.
He was released in 2023, but re-imprisoned twice in 2024. His parole ended Dec. 18 of last year.
Though not reflected in NCDAC records, court records show McDurmon was also convicted in June of this year of misdemeanor larceny and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.
All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
