HPD: Laurinburg chase ends in wreck on Hamlet Avenue, several injured

Posted

HAMLET — What started as a police chase in Scotland County ended in a wreck with several bystanders being injured early Sunday morning.

According to a Facebook post from the Hamlet Police Department, officers responded to a wreck on Hamlet Avenue around 2:15 a.m. Sunday that was the result of a pursuit involving the Laurinburg Police Department.

Caleb Javor Ingram, of Hamlet, was reportedly lying on the ground underneath a parked truck after being ejected from his vehicle.

Citing Laurinburg Police, HPD says Ingram was “traveling at a high rate of speed” from Laurinburg, but there is yet no indication why the chase was initiated.

The vehicle reportedly went airborne when it hit the railroad tracks on Hamlet Avenue, and Ingram lost control and hit several buildings and other vehicles along the street, causing property damage.

Police say Resurrection Temple Ministries Church received extensive damage. Other property and vehicles along the street were also reportedly damaged.

Two pedestrians were reportedly struck and taken to a hospital for treatment. A passenger in Ingram’s vehicle also reportedly sustained minor injuries.

The post from HPD does not mention possible injuries of Ingram, however it does state that he was “arrested for multiple warrants” and that more charges may be pending.

A search of online court records Sunday evening did not show any current pending charges for Ingram. He also did not appear to be in the jails of Richmond or Scotland counties.

As of 6:15 p.m., the Laurinburg Police Department had not issued a release on social media.

HPD says the N.C. State Highway Patrol is investigating the incident.

The RO will have more information as it becomes available.
