ROCKINGHAM — Often considered as a spark of energy on the basketball court, junior shooting guard Jayden Hamilton has provided a lot of it lately for the Richmond Senior High School basketball team.

Helping keep the Raiders’ winning streak going, which has now reached 10 straight victories, Hamilton has been named the Official Richmond County Male Student-Athlete of the Week.

Earning his second career selection, and his first for basketball, Hamilton put up big offensive numbers for Richmond in three games last week. He earned his first award following an historic football performance earlier this school year.

“CLASSROOM CREDITS” WITH JAYDEN HAMILTON

One of dozens of dual enrollment student-athletes at Richmond, Hamilton has to keep up his bookwork all year round since he plays three sports.

Taking classes at Richmond and Richmond Community College, Hamilton currently has a 4.10 weighted grade point average.

During the fall semester, Hamilton passed all four of his classes. He earned As in AP US Government and Weight Training Honors, while also earning college credits in Math 171 and Spanish 111.

Early into the start of the second semester, Hamilton is doing well in his next four classes — English III Honors and Weight Training Honors at Richmond, and Math 171 and Spanish 112 at RichmondCC.

With still more than a year to go before he graduates high school in 2026, Hamilton hopes to stay on track and earn a scholarship to play college football.

“BUCKETS” WITH JAYDEN HAMILTON

The Raiders have been on fire since starting their current 10-game winning streak Dec. 10. Hamilton has been a big part of that success, showing off his ability to shoot the ball from distance, while driving to the hoop and playing shutdown defense.

Richmond won all three of its Sandhills Athletic Conference games last week, starting with a 76-60 win over Lee County High School. Hamilton recorded a single-game career-high 28 points in the win, shooting 12-of-17 from the field (70.6%) with four three-pointers.

A night later back on their home court, the Raiders avenged an earlier loss to Pinecrest High School with a 66-54 win. Hamilton contributed seven points in the win, going 3-for-8 from the floor. His biggest help in the game was running the press defense and dishing out numerous assists that led to baskets.

In the week’s final game Friday, Richmond coasted to an 89-62 win at Hoke County High School, the team it started its winning streak against seven weeks ago. Hamilton recorded his second 20+ point performance of the week, dropping a game-high 23 points on 7-of-13 shooting.

Against the Bucks, Hamilton added 7-of-10 shooting from the free throw line and again helped lead a tough press defense.

On the season, Hamilton leads the Raiders with 12.6 points per game.

Richmond (11-7, 6-2 SAC) will play twice this week, starting with a road game at Union Pines High School (12-7, 3-4 SAC) Tuesday at 7 p.m.
