HAMLET - Rumors have been flying in Richmond County asking the question, “Is Jerry’s Diner closed already?”
The facebook page “What’s up Richmond County” had a long string of questions and comments from previous employees and customers speculating what the status of the restaurant is due to a recent closing for two weeks, ostensibly for a family vacation.
As anyone is the restaurant industry knows, it is a grueling business and some time off to clear your head is a must.
In a phone conversation on Saturday, Preston Bartley, operator of Jerry’s Diner, stated that the current plan is for the restaurant to reopen Thursday, August 16 at 9:00 a.m.
The hours of operation each week will be Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
The menu will feature breakfast sandwiches (all day), hamburgers, hot dogs, BBQ sandwiches, flounder plates, crab leg plates, and BBQ plates.
There will no longer be a buffet. A new item for the menu will be a wrap, either collard or cabbage.
The cook who has been at Jerry’s Diner will still be there; he was also the cook when Jones on Main was operating on Main Street.
So if you would like to revisit Jerry’s Diner to taste the new menu and support this local business, you can do so Thursday, August 16.
