ROCKINGHAM — The Richmond Senior High School junior varsity girls’ soccer team played a pair of home matches Thursday and Friday, splitting them with one win and one loss.
Thursday’s home match against Union Pines High School ended in a 4-1 loss, the team’s first of the season. Scoring the lone goal was freshman Miley Locklear.
Ending the week by opening MSC action against Pine Forest, the JV Lady Raiders won 1-0.
Locklear also had the goal in the victory, scoring the match’s only goal with eight minutes remaining in regulation.
“We didn’t have our best game Thursday, but we played much better in the second half (against Union Pines) and that carried over to tonight,” head coach Bennie Howard said Friday.
“I was glad the girls were able to correct a few mistakes and get a win to start conference play,” he added. “Now we’ll look to keep it going next week.”
The JV Lady Raiders (4-1, 1-0 MSC) will travel to Jack Britt High School Tuesday and start at 5 p.m. for another conference match.
